Assessing Streamflow Sensitivity to Precipitation Variability in Karst?Influenced Catchments With Unclosed Water Balances

چکیده

Karst hydrological models are widely used for simulating groundwater dynamics at the aquifer scale. However, modeling streamflow of a topographic catchment that is partially covered by karst rarely reported. This absence due to difficulties properly considering strong differences karstic and nonkarstic hydrodynamics widespread occurrence unclosed water balances in regions intercatchment flow (IGF). In this study, we present new approach uses signatures identify important natural processes appropriate model structures simulation karst-influenced catchments. We account IGF apply our six catchments Europe Middle East. estimate contributions parts total sensitivity. With different identified sites, reduces balance errors 18% root mean squared error 20% where deemed important. find modifies contribution areas The sensitivity increases under gaining conditions decreases losing with larger discharge elasticity, while it shows converse change smaller elasticity. Modeling requires consideration between areas, matters balances.

The contribution of soi moisture storage to the water balances of upland forested and grassland catchments

Soil moisture was measured on the Plynlimon catchments, mid Wales, by neutron scattering using networks of access tubes, as a means of estimating the changes in catchment storage for inclusion in the water balance. Reduced networks were used from 1974 to 1982, following an early assessment of their contribution to the water balance from 1970 to 1973. This study assesses the contribution of soil...

Use of color maps and wavelet coherence to discern seasonal and interannual climate influences on streamflow variability in northern catchments

The higher midlatitudes of the northern hemisphere are particularly sensitive to change due to the important role the 0°C isotherm plays in the phase of precipitation and intermediate storage as snow. An international intercatchment comparison program called North-Watch seeks to improve our understanding of the sensitivity of northern catchments to change by examining their hydrological and bio...

Functional model of water balance variability at the catchment scale: 2. Elasticity of fast and slow runoff components to precipitation change in the continental United States

[1] Assessing the sensitivity of annual streamflow to precipitation is challenging due to the complexity of the processes that control the water balance. A low-dimensional model can be useful to interrogate data in regional assessments of a large number of catchments, and can provide insights into the broad similarities and differences between catchments’ behaviors. This work assesses the sensi...

Value of long-term streamflow forecasts to reservoir operations for water supply in snow-dominated river catchments

We present a forecast-based adaptive management framework for water supply reservoirs and evaluate the contribution of long-term inflow forecasts to reservoir operations. Our framework is developed for snow-dominated river basins that demonstrate large gaps in forecast skill between seasonal and inter-annual time horizons. We quantify and bound the contribution of seasonal and inter-annual fore...
